Sports Lore will be just that. The timeless
tales of sports that include tasty cooking recipes thrown
in to whet the appetite. In time, with your help, we
hope to age into a comfortable website for your enjoyment.
We invite all to write in with your stories and recipes.
With permission your story, suggestions, name, etc.
will appear in future editions. We want this to be your
website. We will just get it to print, so to speak.
The word "we" consist of Jerry
Landers our webmaster, Chef Mike as food editor, and
myself Mike Toone.
Jerry has been in the graphic design business
almost since it was a business. Jerry and I had the
good fortune to work on another website site with veteran
Philadelphia sports writer Bill Shefski. Joining Bill
was lifelong friend, and like Bill a good person; NFL
Hall of Famer Herb Adderley. Sadly cancer took Bill
from us too early. Herb decided to work on his autobiography,
and Jerry and I, well we decided to launch this website.
We can never duplicate the wisdom and memories of Bill
and Herb written in Ageless Sports. So we are asking
you the readers to help us.
As Food Editor we have Chef Mike at the
table. Mike graduated from The French Culinary Institute
in New York City, NY. He has been involved in the business
of good meals ever since. When he heard that Jerry and
I were toying with the idea of another website Mike
was the first to join on. He wanted to do what he does
best and the idea of "Tailgate Talk" was born.
Somehow the idea of sports and food seems like a good
one to us.
Unlike the other two guys I bring nothing
to the word garden of Sports Lore. I do the research,
some of it, the writing, little of it, and editing,
actually none of that. Mostly I’m the one that looks
for the remote, and cleans up the dishes after the game.
Somebody has to do that, I think.
All of us can be reached at the addresses
given on the website. We welcome help, comments, and
submissions for print. All of us, I’m sure, have a story
or sports lore worth telling.

About Us, One More Time
The staff of Sports Lore sat around once
again tweaking the web page. The conversation went Sports?
Check! Food? Check? Motivational Advise? Huh? What the
girls do! Check! Yet despite the height our meeting
rose to in brainstorming something was missing. What
was it?
What new feature could we hoist? As we
put our glasses down why not a Beverage Editor. We agreed,
meeting was over; we got another round of drinks. It
was a done and over conversation. Now we had sports,
food, drink and that wonderful "From The Sidelines"
information and advice the girls provide. This combination
would set us aside from other sports sites even more,
this combination would propel us forward in hits, this
combination would do what? First we had to find a Beverage
Editor.
Every now and then one does get lucky.
Another friend agreed to join the Sports Lore family.
All of us at Sports Lore have known Kevin for quite
some time now. Like most of us he has a full plate,
or pint glass, with family and other interest. However
Kevin learned the restaurant bar business from somebody
very important to him and Chef Mike. Kevin’s Uncle Dan
owned a popular spot for many years. While Chef Mike
was in the kitchen honing his trade, Kevin was out front.
He went from bouncer to bartender and never looked back.
After 16 years Kevin has learned a thing or two about
what drinks are good, and what people would like.
So please welcome the smiling bartender
Kevin, Beverage Editor and our new section "Hey
Beer Man!".
