I have always enjoyed getting together
with my wife’s side of the family. Whether it is holidays,
birthdays, or just a day that happens to end in "Y".
I always find it to be a lot of fun. When you gather
with that side of the family there is always alcohol
consumption involved. This is a good thing because sometimes
you need a libation or two to help you relax when you
are dealing with all of the outlaws, er, in-laws.
This particular gathering involved food
and lots of it. The head "Chef" at this particular
event always prefers to cut the meat, in this case turkey,
early enough so that it may cool down!?? What, have
another beer? OK! The chef’s assistant decided that
mashing the potatoes would be a good way to help out.
So began the mashing.
Dinner was served. Everything was hot,
except for the turkey. Also everything was traditional
except for those mashed potatoes. The normally white,
fluffy potatoes had an almost beige color and a very
different consistency. So, before trying this unusual
looking dish, I went to the fridge for more eggnog.
There was no more eggnog left in the fridge,
so I opened a beer. "Didn’t like the eggnog? asked
the chef. There isn’t any left, the empty container
is in the trash!" It was then that I took a real
good look at those mashed potatoes.
As I sampled the first spoonful I realized
that the assistant (hic) had mistaken the eggnog container
(hic) for milk. We were eating alcohol laced mashed
potatoes. For this the assistant had to do the dishes,
and stay on the wagon for the rest of the gathering.
I now eat before I go to the outlaws.
Enjoy (hic) your holiday
