As we mentioned in the first edition of Sports Lore one man paved the way for Jerry and I to try a sports website. His name is Bill Shefski, and for many he lives on in our minds and hearts. After Bill died his family decided to create a small scholarship fund in his name. At least the name many of the young knew him as. That was "Pops", as so many children and grandchildren called him that.

His daughters administer the modest scholarship. Each year they select a college bound student who is involved in sports. More importantly a student who approaches sports as they do life. Just like their Dad, our friend, did. That being fair and honest both in play and work. They also must show willingness at all times to learn and grow.

On May 19, 2006 the family will be hosting a fundraiser to continue the scholarship. Last year the money raised went to several projects including sports equipment for local schools and a scholarship to a few High School Seniors. The details of the fund raiser are to follow. If there are any questions let Jerry the webmaster or me know, and we will pass them on to the family.
