Sports Lore Bulletin

There sure are a lot of college Bowl games in America. There are also a lot of colleges so getting to a Bowl game, any Bowl game, is very difficult. The only thing for sure is that somehow or another all the Bowl games will end up on television. Below is a list of Bowl Games, and the dates to be played.

Prior to that here is a little Bowl Trivia to try and work into a conversation. The "Grandaddy of Them All" is the Rose Bowl. The first game was played in 1902. It became so popular that by 1916 it became an annual event. In 1923 it started playing on New Years Day, and has ever since.

By the way, if somebody refers to the game as the "Run For The Roses" feel free to correct them. That phrase has nothing to do with the football game, Tournament of Roses parade, or anything else going on relative to football. It is the nickname for the Kentucky Derby.

Orange Bowl is the second oldest starting in 1933. It seems sponsorship money was catching on for Bowl Games Few knew then how far that would go in producing bowl games. One corporate sponsor who did not last was the Bluebonnet Bowl. Corporate gave that up in 1987.

Sugar Bowl does not play in anything close to being named sugar. It is played in New Orleans Superdome.

The initials BCS do not stand for any college conference league. They are a national group of sports writers and coaches who determine who plays in some games. Much is taken into consideration espically when schools have similar seasons. About the only thing that does not count is the color of the uniform.

On to the Bowl games.
