Recently members of Sports Lore had a
chance to say good bye to a friend. Chris Slemmer, by
profession, was a stage and production manager. Over
the years he worked with The Grateful Dead, later The
Dead, Grover Washington Jr., Aerosmith, Rusted Root,
Neil Diamond and many other musical artists. At least
that is how he paid the bills. He, like many of us,
worked to live; not lived to work.
Chris had many loves but none more important
then his daughters and other family members. He also
had this uncanny ability to make and keep friends. Over
time we knew as much about his family, as he did ours.
Though often out of town on road trips, those important
to him were never out of his thoughts. A part of him
that came through in conversations, and humor when we
were together. When Sports Lore was launched Chris gave
us the best he could give. He gave us his belief we
could make it work. Something even I was not so sure
about.
In time Chris helped us select the Sports
Lore logo that will be appearing on our merchandise.
Over time he became much more then a friend, he became
family.
Sadly cancer is not choosy and it found
Chris. On September 24, 2003 Robert Christian Slemmer
Jr. (Chris) went on his final road trip. The cancer
won, those that knew him lost.
It is with some comfort that we know we
will someday join him again. When that happens the extra
innings will begin. See you later Chris.
