Navy Staubach and Carter
Stanford Elway and Hoover
Michigan Brady and Ford
Miami Roethlisberger and Harrison
Weiant Williams

Not long ago we ran a trivia question by you. While
some got one, maybe two somewhat correct nobody got
them all - until now. By somewhat correct I mean the
right school, but the wrong alumni. Except for one,
and that will be listed first. Here are the questions,
the clues, and the answers. Thanks.

It is not easy to put the names of Presidents
and NFL Quarterbacks in the same sentence. However,
in one of last Sunday's games that was done. The trivia
question was that there are only four higher education
schools that have alumni that both boast a President
of the United States and a winning Superbowl Quarterback.
Can you name them?
In addition name the President and Quarterback
from each school. Here are some clues in no particular
order.
Ahoy!.... A Naval term
Two share a name with a famous London
landmark....Big Ben
Model T.....Ford
"I did it........".....My Way
rhymes with El...?
Male cats............Tom
"????? Dodger"...........Roger
The United States Naval Academy, and most
got this school and alumnus. The President was James
Earl Carter a 1946 graduate. He became the 39th President
from 1977 to 1981.
Roger Staubach graduated the academy in
1969. In 1972 he Quarterbacked the Dallas Cowboys to
a Super Bowl victory.
When thinking of schools, think old. Stanford
University fits that bill. In 1895 Herbert Hoover graduated.
He later became our 31st. President from 1929 to 1933.
Much later in 1983 John Elway said good
buy to Stanford, and Hello to Denver Broncos. He skippered
them to Super Bowl wins in 1998 and 1999.
University of Michigan also shares the
honors with Gerald Ford graduating in 1935. He became
our 38th. President holding office from 1974 to 1977.
Still active in the NFL Tom Brady graduated
UM in 2000. In the years 2002, 2004 and 2005 he was
with Super Bowl winners New England Patriots.
The school with the biggest gap between
politician and sports alumni of note was also the school
nobody thought of. That being Miami University - Ohio.
Benjamin Harrison graduated there in 1852. He became
the United States 23rd President from 1889 to 1893.
A long time after President Harrison graduated
a sports alumni of 2002 made his name known. That graduate
was another Ben with the last name of Roethlisberger.
In short order he became a Steelers winning quarterback
in 2006.
Mike,
Thanks for the trivia question and answer.
One thing.
Roger Staubach graduated in 1965 from
Annapolis, not 1969. He had to fulfill his commitment
to the Navy in return for the free education. I knew
that because that is what my brother Pat had to do after
attending West Point.
Below is an excerpt from Wikipedia...
After his graduation from the Naval Academy
in 1965, Staubach spent four years as an officer in
the United States Navy, including a tour of duty in
Vietnam as a naval supply officer.
He was a 10th round draft pick in 1964
by the Dallas Cowboys, but due to his military commitment,
did not begin playing until 1969 as a 27 year old rookie.
Have a good one...
Sean Gallagher
ED: Thanks, Sean, for pointing that out.
