Letters From The Grandstand

Question:
What was the name of JFK Stadium before it became JFK Stadium?
Steve

Answer:
Thanks for the question. The JFK Stadium was constructed as the Philadelphia Municipal Stadium. Some said Municipal Stadium others Philadelphia Stadium. It depends on where you lived. However, the official name was the Philadelphia Municipal Stadium.

One of the oldest well-known rivalries played there was the Army-Navy game each year. First as Municipal Stadium and then later the JFK Stadium. For years Municipal Stadium stood alone as much of the area was marsh land. However, the landscape has changed as do stadiums, their names, and sometimes locations.

Great question, and have a Happy New Year.
