Fear Strikes Out – 1957 (N/R)(BW) – Baseball/Drama; Anthony Perkins, Karl Malden, Norma Moore. Anthony Perkins may have given the performance of his career in this fine autobiography of Jimmy Piersall, outfielder for the Boston Red Sox, whose career was marred by mental illness.

Cool Runnings – 1993 (PG) – Bobsledding/Olympics/Comedy; Leon, Doug E. Doug, John Candy. Unlikely team of Jamaican bobsledders goes to the 1988 Olympics.

61* – 2001 (TV) – Baseball/Drama; Thomas Jane, Barry Pepper. Marris and Mantle face mounting pressure from the press as they approach The Babe's 60 HR record.

Chariots of Fire – 1981 (PG) – Running/Olympics/Drama; Ben Cross Ian Charleson. Two English runners, one a devout Christian, the other, a Jew facing anti-Semitism, compete in the 1924 Olympics and become life-long friends.

Mr. 3000 – 2004 (PG-13) – Baseball/Comedy; Bernie Mac, Angela Bassett. An aging baseball star returns to the field after discovering he's few short of the 3,000 hits that have become his namesake.

Dempsey – 1983 (TV) – Boxing/Drama/Biography; Treat Williams, Sam Waterson, Sally Kellerman. This account of the famed world heavyweight champ's rise through the ranks of boxing also explores his turbulent personal life.
