The International Professional Ring Officials
(IPRO) completed its 3rd annual convention in Seattle
last week, and was a great success according to IPRO
president Barry Druxman. The three day event featured
detailed seminars which were designed to train referees,
judges, and fight doctors. The seminars ranged from
ring safety to judging fights, and most blocks of instruction
were followed by tests. The noted speakers/instructors
included Dr. Margaret Goodman, Dr. Flip Homansky, Tommy
Kaczmarak, Armando Garcia, Joe Cortez, and Frank Cappucino.
Besides area officials and referees, also in attendance
was ABC president Tim Lueckenhoff. It wasn't all business
however, as extra curricular activities included a Salmon
fishing derby won by Joe Cortez, and a golf outing,
no winner. The dinner and auction raised over $2200
for the Retired Boxers Foundation. IPRO is currently
at 200 members, and is growing monthly.
