This weekend up in Canostota, NY the late
Dan Duva will be posthumously inducted into the International
Boxing Hall of Fame.
Dan, who founded Main Events Promotions
with his father Lou, brother Dino and wife Kathy was
one of boxing's special people. A devoted family man,
Dan was an honest, straight-up guy who sincerely cared
for his fighters. His induction was long overdue and
boxing still misses him.
To open this year's festivities Hall of
Famer Aaron "the Hawk" Pryor married his longtime girlfriend
Frankie Lynn Wagner in a public ceremony.
Former middleweight Dana Rosenblatt announced
his retirement this week. Leaving the ring with a stellar
professional record, 31-1-2, "Dangerous Dana" stated
"I've been cut the last 2-3 times I fought and I've
had problems with both hands and shoulders, committing
to my training was getting very difficult." Dana also
added, "Now when I'm watching young fighters, I almost
feel sorry for them. I not only know what they're going
through, but what lies ahead for them - and in 98 percent
of the cases, it's not good."
Dana will still remain close to the fight
game as a television commentator for Fox Sports New
England's monthly series.
Irish Mickey Ward says his rubber match
against Jersey City's Arturo Gatti will be his last
fight. Good to see that this true champion has finally
received the recognition, respect and financial rewards
that he has always deserved.
Kirk Johnson's torn pectoral muscle, injured
during a sparring session, has forced him out of the
June 21st heavyweight championship fight against current
champ Lennox Lewis.
There's talk that former Clifton resident
Jameel "Big Time" McCline may step in for the injured
Johnson.
Looks like James Toney may be getting
his long awaited re-match against Bernard Hopkins August
9th at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
That's it for this week in boxing: any
comments or questions concerning fights, fighters, etc.
