Last week
we asked you:
Is it
time for steroid use to finally be addressed?
Sports were so much easier when the only
performance-enhancer we had to worry about were Vitamins.
Almost every day brings another steroid
report. First, Jose Canseco said that 85 percent of
major leaguers use steroids. Then Ken Caminiti told
Sports Illustrated that he used steroids during his
1996 MVP season. Chad Curtis told SI that 40 to 50 percent
of major leaguers use them as well.
The question is whether anyone really
cares enough to do anything. Fans say they hate steroid
use, but they also really enjoy watching home runs sail
into the upper deck. After all, Mark McGwire used the
performance-enhancer androstenedione four years ago
when he broke Roger Maris' single-season home run record.
Do the players care? Do the owners care? If a substance
is illegal in the United States, should it be illegal
in the major leagues?
Here is what you told us:
Steroids are illegal and should not
be tolerated by any professional sports organization.
All player should perform using their God-given talents.
That way, awards can be given and records can be set
by players from an equal platform.

In my day the only performance enhancer
out there was beer. It was legal, and tasted pretty
good. Sports players of today are foolish to use legal
or illegal steroids to improve their game. They are
just setting themselves up for a fall. Worse yet they
may be setting up the sports I love for a fall. Wake
up and smell the roses. You want to perform better
I suggest practice. We are talking about homeruns
and goals, not life and death. At least that is the
way I see it from my barstool.

I think there should be a ban on
all performance enhancers in professional sports.
What kind of example are these professional athlete's
setting for the kids if you need to be on steroids
to make it in sports.

In the Bullpen for next week:
Should Miss
North Carolina, Rebekah Revels, be banned from the Miss
America pageant due to topless photos?
The controversy began in July when pageant
officials received an anonymous e-mail -- later determined
to have been sent by Revels' ex-boyfriend Tosh Welch
-- that told them about the topless photos.
Revels said Welch surprised her by snapping
two photographs as she changed clothes. She has since
broken up with Welch and recently sued him.
In a hearing on a lawsuit that Revels
filed against the state competition, a state pageant
official testified that Revels was told she would have
to resign or be fired because she
violated morals requirements in her contract. What is
your view?
