Where Are They Now?

Cool, Calm, and Collected. Those are the words used to describe the six-foot-seven guard who managed 23,602 points for the Spurs, and has broken or tied over 40 Spurs records. Geroge Gervin, the original Iceman, is known for his calm demeanor on the court. From 1974 to 1985, Gervin played in twelve consecutive All-Star games, and is one of the three players in NBA history to win four or more scoring titles. Gervin was also the first Spurs player to have his number retired. Today, Number 44 of the San Antonio Spurs is using his talents off the courts, as community relations specialist for the Spurs, and running the George Gervin Youth Center.

George "The Iceman" Gervin was born 4/27/52 in Detroit, Michigan. The nickname came from his cool, calm, and seemingly effortless style of play. He was also known for his deadly jump shot and "finger roll" style. Something he showed over and over again with the ABA's Dallas Chaparrals later to become the NBC's San Antonia Spurs. The Spurs made his number "44" just one of three to be retired, and Gervin entered the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996.

Today, among many public appearances and charity events, he is active in "START" which stands for Southwest Texas Addiction Research and Technology Center. He can be contacted through the Spurs organization and signed souvenir cards are available at Autographed To You.
