Where Are They Now?

Born on November 22, 1913 in Washington D.C., a young boy named Gardnar was born with a tennis racquet in his hands. It never left, and to this day tennis is his game.

He won his first US Championships in 1939, 1941, and 1942 teaming up with his dad, Robin Mulloy, in the Father and Sons Doubles. Before he could move on in the tennis arena World War II demanded his attention. He served in the Navy leaving as a First Captain of a landing ship. After the Navy he landed on the tennis court.

For ten years he teamed up with Bill Talbert to create havoc in tennis double play. During this time he and Bill won the US Title four times (1942, 1945, 1946, 1948).

Later he spent fourteen years listed in the top ten for US singles play, and was listed in the World Top Ten three times. In 1952 he was number one. Along the way he won 122 National and 19 International Tennis Championships. This not only set records but placed Mr. Mulloy in nine sports hall of fame.

Not resting on his fame this former Davis Cup player is currently the winner of the World Senior Championship Tennis Match for the third time. He is also the author of the book "The Will To Win."

During World War II, Gardnar was First Captain of LST-32, a 3000 ton landing ship with a crew of 123 men and officers. For other American service men who served on various LSTs, Gardnar would like to recommend Marine artist James Flood's commissioned action painting depicting an LST heading to the beach under fire. The artist did such an excellent true to life rendering, that a limited number of color lithographs were especially made for the opportunity of LST Sailors possessing one. The beauty of owning one of these masterpieces is that the artist is able to personalize the ship as your LST with her number on the bow, with an indication of the theater of operation (Europe or Pacific). This unique and beautiful lithograph is perfect for framing to proudly show your friends and is destined to become a treasured family heirloom. The lithograph is 17" x 24" and sells for $60 (check only please, shipping included). For more information write:
